Bills
DISCLAIMER:
These images are not for the faint of heart.
This is our latest bill encompassing Lillian's 32 days of treatment in the PICU. In case you can't quite make it out, the total is $386,462.47.
Please note that the amount due from us is $0.
This is our pile of bills from the hospital over the last 8 months and they are still rolling in. (The phone book is just to show the relative size.)
There are many families who have to face these bills without insurance. The added stress that would bring is unfathomable to me.
Please join me in praying for them!

Hey Lori, I just sent out $900 worth of co-pays today. Unbelievable. We satisfied our out of pocket expenses by the end of February this year. I don't know what people do without insurance.
I do believe I should earn a degree in bookkeeping after all of this is over, what with keeping track of hospital bills, explanations of benefits, what actually happened on specific dates and then the bills where they want you to pay them back. Phew!
I know isn't it ridiculous! I don't know if it's so much fun but I've always enjoyed going through the bill and typing the REALLY expensive lines into Google to find out what it is in real people terms. I'm amazed at how much a shot the size on my pinkie can cost. I liked telling people that every day I did treatment I purchased a new Volvo. 6 hours at the dealership should get you something! =) Insurance is a wonderful thing!
Maddy got a shot in each leg one day and each shot cost just over $3,000!! Luckily, ha!, our insurance paid 90% and our co-pay was only $584. Just two shots! Chemo is expensive.
Having always been blessed with medical insurance, it is easy to take medical care for granted. Thank you for your reminder to pray for those who worry about bills in addition to the stress of a sick family member. We will definitely include those families in our prayers.
Love to you and Jeff,
Mindy
