Okey dokey, it's audience participation time my friends! No reading and running this time. By the way, I have a visit counter you know. (Granted about half of the visits are from me checking to see if there are any comments. I'll admit it, I'm a comment whore!!!) So you see, you can't lurk in the shadows. I know you're out there. Plus I can hear you breathing...
Where was I? Oh yeah, audience participation. We have this thing we do at work dinners. We ask deep and insightful questions that everyone at the table answers. Questions like "what is your all time favorite movie?" Or "what sporting event would you most like to attend?" I told you they were deep! It's a great way to learn more about each other. So in that spirit, here is my question to all of you:
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I'm not talking about what you wanted to be back when you were a kid. I'm asking about now. If you had the talent or resources or whatever, what would you like to be?
C'mon let's hear it you rock star wannabe's! What have you got to lose? You can always leave an anonymous comment so we won't know whose ridiculous ambition we are mocking mercilessly. Not that any of us would do that...

I'll even go first. Though I would LOVE to have Broadway caliber talent, I wouldn't want all the extra stuff that comes along with stardom. Working out, dieting, pancake makeup...EVERYDAY...ugh.
So I will say that I would love to be a writer. That way I could still express myself creatively but I could be completely incognito if I so choose. Fame without the glam factor.
Your turn...
OK, I've been a lurker for quite a while. Since I don't even know you (you're a friend of a friend) it's even more lurkier (is that a word??)
Well, I think I would love to be a cowgirl. Not necessarily competitively, although I guess if I were dreaming I'd go for the rodeo scene!

Friends of friends are friends indeed. :) Thanks for stepping out of the shadows Lea. It's great to meet you! And may I be the first to say "YEEHAW!"
What a wonderful question, I too have been in the shadows and feel that now that I have been revealed, I should participate!
I feel there are so many things I would love to do, I would love to get paid to travel the world! So perhaps a travel writer! Or better yet, a hotel reviewer. I think with all my touring years I know a few things or two about hotels! The other thing I think would awesome, is to be able to contribute to someone else's success, like teaching adults to read, teaching kids, or helping those that need it. I think there would be no better reward. Can I keep going...now that you have started me thinking, I will probably think of a few more things that I would LOVE to do when I grow up!
It's funny Abra, I think your job is probably on a lot of people's wish list. We're talking about Broadway baby! But I suppose the grass is always greener on the other side, right? I'll take your advice on hotels anyday!
Hi Lori I am a friend of Traci's and have been reading your blogs for a very long time. I've been thinking of this very question for some time now. I will be retiring in 4 years and have thought of several things I want to do when I grow up. But, if I have to pick one thing I would love to be a party planner for small children. I have a 7 year old grand daughter, I have a lot of practice
Truthfully, I want to be a country singer. But I dont think I have a good enough voice. My husband seems to think I do(God Bless Him).
Other than that, I've always wanted to be a teacher(thank you Grandma and everyone else who inspired me!)

I want to be a Supreme Court Justice, if I could be anything! I think it would be really interesting and I would actually be part of the 3 parts of the federal government. Besides, if I was wearing a black robe all of the time I could eat whatever I wanted, right?
Do I really have to grow up??? No really. I have thought about this and have a serious answer and a dreamy answer.
In a dream world a professional soccer player and a artist, but only glass work (stained glass windows, mosaics, ect).
What I REALLY want to be is a woman of faith and integrity. I want to give all of my self to my family, friends and community to make this world a better place. I know awe... I would do this through of course being a mother/wife/daughter/ect., pediatric occupational therapist (part time), teaching and volunteering to the organizations that are close to my heart. If only there were more hours in a day! So many things to do. Gods work is never done :)
Okay enough. Maybe I took the question to seriously or put too much thought into it ;) Beth
an astronaut. i'd LOVE to travel out of orbit and be able to look at the earth from outer space.
OR
a broadway musical and/or movie director. duh.
Becci :)
If I have a creative bone in my body, it is definitely a small one. Nonetheless, I would want to be an artist. Either painting or pottery. Oddly enough, my real job couldn't be further from that :) Michelle
I'd want to be a performer on Broadway...a real live actor who doesn't have to do anything but act. AND one who has a good enough reputation to pick and choose which shows she wants to be in so she can make sure her family comes first.
AND...I'd want you to be the head writer for all of my shows. Seriously...and Becci can direct.
I would love to be a Youth-Style Mission's Pastor. Leading and training students from 6th grade on up through College about missions and the importance of it. Then joining them on some of the adventures throughout the world.
The ultimate goal would be to set up a camp directed towards the training and such. Fully equiped with live action courses, team bonding experiences, and classrooms for training.
But, I really don't know. Perhaps I should just try to get back to India.
I always thought it would be fun to be an elementary school teacher.

When I grow up, I want to be a queen...or if I can't do that...I think I'd like to be a flower/gift shop owner. The cherry on top would be to somehow us this shop to support ministries of some kind, and/or train other women and give them work skills and training.
Can queens do both??
Cheryl (aka Lucy)
I wish I could sing. I'm not even dreaming of a solo voice--I'd be happy with a choir-caliber voice. A friend of mine sings in a church choir and she says that it feels like she's already in heaven when they perform. --Mom
OK, so I fully admit that I am a FOOD ADDICT! I love it. I love reading about it, looking at it, cooking it, and most of all eating it. So if wishes were fishes and plentiful for me to choose from, I would be a food reviewer/critic.
Time for me to quit lurking. I read Lillian's blog, and now read Lori's regularly. I love how freely you write about everyday things. You are truly an inspiration. Thanks for calling us out of the shadows:-).

Hey, this is pretty fun! I think this group share idea may turn into a weekly event. Give me your ideas for questions so I'm not asking things like "if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be." (I think Barbara Walters actually asked Kathrine Hepburn that question!)
Hi Lori - Longtime lurker...first time poster. I think I would like to own a bridal shop or be a wedding coorinator; help women really feel like a princess for the day
Funny you should ask this question this particular week. As I'm sitting at home during my time off and watching ridiculous daytime television I have been catching myself thinking, "If I could do anything what would it be?"
Honestly, I would love to be a spy. I have always loved spy movies and observing things from inside and out to get the real down low.
OR
If I had the stomach and I didn't cry so easily...a nurse who would travel around on short/long term missions helping those who are are less fortunate in foreign countries. There are so many people who need medical help and/or money for medication. I would like to be one who could make a difference in some peoples lives.
Hi Lori ,
I have always wanted to be a pro tennis player or a librarian.Talk about different ends of the spectrum. I take care of my fantacy by watching tennis and reading a lot. love your blog as always.
Deborah
Hi Lori, I am a full time lurker also. I am Traci's cubemate and I feel as though I know you personally. You are hysterical! I think one day you should be a children's book writer and write about a little girl named Lillian! You could call it Lillian's Great Adventures.
Anyhoo, as you Winegar girls would say, sadly when I was a little girl my life aspiration was to be a bagger at a grocery store. Today, I fulfill this dream each Sunday at my local Safeway by jumping in the bagger's area and bagging my groceries. Unfortunately, each week the professional baggers come and kick me out because as they have pointed out I just don't have the skill down.
Let's see...what do I want to be when I grow up??? Hmmm...I've done the elementary school teacher thing...fun, creative, challenging, but done w/that. Done the coaching thing...exciting, challenging, stressful...done with that. Doing the financial analyst thing...learning tons.. Doing the Mom thing...but not cut out for the full-time part
SOOO....hmmmm... well, truth be told, I have always wanted to be a shoe designer for an unnamed company...what can I say..I love athletic shoes! :-) Traci
And for those interested...we got a game called "Would you rather...", which also gets conversations started. Admittedly, some of them are a bit silly, but some are really fun.
Hahaha...my favorite question! I can answer easy because I am a BIG dreamer, not just the "oh, someday", but the "It will happen, no matter what, nothin's gonna stop me, reach for the stars" dreamer! I am an actor but want to be the Laura Linney, Juliian Moore caliber when I grow up...or maybe Judi Dench, depending how long it takes me! I am on the road...
YOU are a writer, say it out loud. Your someday is here, just depends what you are going to do with it! Watch "The Secret" and buy the book "The Artist Way".
Thanks for the great walk!! You are our superwoman :)
I really don't know what I want to be, but I'd like it to include helping out even in small behind the scenes ways with many more Village Performing Arts productions!
Lori, Are you kidding? You want to be a writer. You are already a writer! And a really good one at that!
Lori,
I'm just an anonymous reader, but I'd like to play too.
I'd love to be a chef. To flambe, to knead, to saute, oh so much fun.
Oh yeah, and I'd love to run my own bed and breakfast. My breakfast creations would be the best :)
Thanks for asking.
-Trisha
Oooohhh....this is a fun one. My first thought is one I wanted to secretly do when I was a kid - be a race car driver! I'm not into NASCAR or anything, but I think it would be a blast to drive really fast and race.
My next thought is to be a baker. I LOVE to bake AND to eat baked goods. I'd probably end up so overweight if I did this though! =)
I second the opinion that you already ARE a writer, Lori! I've done a lot of writing this year too - it's been great for processing all the stuff! We could write a book together one day - about how God uses the "C" word for His glory and good!
