Too much of a good thing

I recently discovered these chewy 100% fruit snack and have since been throwing them back like candy. Not surprisingly, I managed to consume the entire package in three days. After tossing a handful down the hatch on day 2, I started reading the fine print.

"Each serving, approximately 14 pieces, contains the same amount of fruit as eating 2 small apples."

Woohoo, look at me eating my fruit like a champ.

Then I noticed the number of servings per container...17. And my brain started doing the math.

I have consumed the equivalent of 34 small apples.

In three days.

That can't be good.

That's just not right...how can they make the serving sizes so screwy - that's just totally misleading!

Yeah it is good to eat your fruit, but thats over doing it :) I am guessing they have a lot of sugar in them too (even if it is sucrose vs. fructose). My kids love them, but I really limit them :) What brand do you get? I get the costco ones, but I am guessing there is a more health conscience one out there. I typically get the individual size, but I bet the big bag is cheeper :) Do share which ones you get!

Beth, they are Sun-Rype Mini Bites. Here are the ingredients:

Apple and/or pear puree concentrate, apple and/or grape and/or pear and elderberry juice concentrates, wildberry concentrate (concentrated cherry, raspberry, blueberry, cranberry and boysenberry juices, natural flavor), citrus pectin, natural flavor, lemon juice concentrate, apple fiber

There is 29g of sugars per serving all "naturally occuring fruit sugars." That's nearly the same as in a Snickers bar and almost the FDA recommended for a full day. Which means I ate an average of 5x the recommended daily amount in these snacks alone. Eek! Still a healthier choice than a Snickers so I'll probably buy them again but this time, I won't leave the bag open on the desk all day.

Do they have as much fiber as 34 apples? Because THAT could be a problem!

But they're small apples, right?
