Huge Problem

I have a huge problem. HUGE! I'm newly addicted to NCIS (thanks Garren) but I'm equally in love with House and Biggest Loser. And there all on at the same time. See it's a Huge Problem!

Honestly, I never thought I'd run into a situation that my DVR couldn't solve. There are many days when it idly sits there pleading to record something and yet there's just nothing of interest on those hundreds of channels. Other days it pretends to work by recording "new" episodes of Project Runway which are actually re-runs. (Stupid Bravo, why can't you learn the definition of new?!) But Tuesday nights...Tuesday nights are special. This is the night my DVR gets called up from the bull pen in the bottom of the ninth with bases loaded and a tied ball game. (Or some other appropriate sports analogy.) This is the night it gets to fulfill it's purpose by ridding my life of those pesky commercial breaks. And in the case of Biggest Loser, it also rids me of much of the filler. All I really want to know is: 1) what is the challenge, 2) who won the challenge, 3) what is the prize for the challenge, 4) how much weight each person lost and 5) who got voted off the show. That's it. The rest is a blur of fast-forwarding.

Wait, where was I?

Oh, right, how to solve my Huge Problem.

Okay so here's my plan. In order for this to work, I've got to pick one of the three shows to watch live. That's right, filled-with-commercials-kind-of-live. It can't be Biggest Loser for reasons previously established. I think I'll go with NCIS. (That's the show not currently scheduled to record so it's just easier that way.)

The next challenge is moving to a different room to watch NCIS. Though the DVR can record two shows at once, it's not very fond of letting you watch a third. So I'll have to wade through the toys and watch the non-HD version of NCIS on the tv in the playroom. I know, woe is me.

Now I just need to figure out how to feed Ian and put him to bed smack dab in the middle of this brilliant plan.

Maybe I'm not meant to watch three shows in one night.

Or maybe I need another DVR!

No, this post is evidence that I do NOT need another DVR. I need a 12 step program for tv addiction...

Update: Ian was remarkably compliant and went to bed a bit early thanks to short naps during the day. After suffering through the commercials with NCIS, we went to watch the recorded House. IT WAS A RE-RUN! All that for nothing. Oh well, this will happen every Tuesday so it was good to have a trial run.

LOL! First, I could have written this post ... only with more whining and less humor and the sports analogy would have been all messed up combining multiple sports. This is a dilemma only the true TV lover can truly comprehend.

Second, we watch The Biggest Loser the exact same way! The show is 2 hours long and I think we must watch at must 30 minutes. Probably closer to 20 minutes.

Third, how great is House? He's so mean. Why do I love him so? I took an online test of who is my TV boyfriend and it came back House. I'm not sure I like what that says about me, but you gotta love a good episode of that show!

SOLUTION! Put your sweet Ian to bed, dig out your computer and watch one online. Even if it's the next day. I'm pretty sure both House and NCIS both have full episodes on their websites.

Well, that's what I'd do. Or if you have a VCR hooked up to another TV..... Ah, don't you just love fall season? We have this problem with Monday nights! Too much good TV. :-)

The web was absolutely my solution to you as well! :-) It's tough getting back in the grove..after a long summer of NOTHING on television...some of the Fall Season start up has caught me off guard! Oh the problems we have in this difficult economy...oh wait, we were talking about television! :-) hehe

Okay, you are so that guy on the AT&T commercial. The guy who is flipping between four channels. I LOVE that commercial. You want to know how sad we are? We have two DVRs...so I guess I can't make fun of you. There are so many things I want to see, every morning there is something new and exciting recorded for me to watch. The bummer? Our DVRs suck! Often they skip on the audio where you either have to be a lip reader or be outraged because they aren't showing the character who was talking. I like the idea of watching it on the computer, makes it a bit more portable. OH! check to see if NBC has the 2 minute what happened on the episode for the biggest loser.

OH, OH OH I have to change my answer. You have to watch The Biggest Loser on the non HD tv and during all of the commercials, do high intensity jumping jack because Jillian says if you do that you will burn 300 calories!!

Hey Lori, So many of your entries make me chuckle and some outright laugh! You are a great writer. Last week our DISH was non functioning and so I watched NCIS on the computer. If you want you can link to my blog. (kimspotts.blogspot.com)

Web would have been my response too :) NCIS is one of my favs too, but honestly who really gets their kids to bed by 8 (especially a 4 year old). I have now also become a HUGE fan of Verizon FIOS. I will be going through withdrawl when we move. With FIOS they have certain NEW programs always on demand and NCIS is one of them (so no need to record). All CSI's are also on demand :) I think biggest looser might be too! So, I only record those that are not covered in the on demand of this beautiful system!
